Today the whole world is celebrating International Yoga Day. It was started with the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on 27 September 2014, he talked about doing yoga together in the United Nations General Assembly and the proposal was accepted on 11 December 2014 and since then International Yoga Day came into existence.
21st June is the longest day of the northern hemisphere, which some people call as the summer solstice. According to Indian tradition, the sun becomes Dakshinayana after the summer solstice. It is said that the time of Dakshinayan of the Sun is very beneficial in attaining spiritual attainments, that is why we celebrate June 21 as International Yoga Day.
The first International Day of Yoga was celebrated on 21 June 2015. On the first Yoga Day, India made two great records. On this day, PM did yoga on Rajpath with more than 35 thousand people. The first record is to do yoga with 35,985 people and the second is attended by people from 84 countries.
