Hanuman Jayanti or birthday of Lord Hanuman is celebrated on full moon night of the 15th day of Chaitra month Sukla Paksha, this year it falls on 5th April. The festival is observed by the Hindus of India. It is believed that Hanuman was born at Sunrise.
Lord Hanuman is an ardent devotee of Lord Rama and is popularly known for his wholehearted devotion towards Lord Rama. Hanuman is the symbol of Energy and strength. It is believed that he can take any form at his will. His name is attached with move mountains, seize the clouds, dart through the air, swiftness of flight and many more.
In Andhra Pradesh, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated for 41 days, beginning on Chaitra Purnima and ending on the tenth day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Vaishakh. Devotees start the Deeksha on Chaitra Purnima and finish it on Hanuman Jayanthi.
Tamil Hanuman Jayanti celebrated in January or December according to the Gregorian calendar.
Hanuman jayanti is also known as Hanuman vratam in Karnataka.
