Champakulam Boat race will be held from 12th July at Champakulam of Kerala.
As per legend the King of Chempakasseri in Devnarayana, under the influence of instructions, provided to him by the royal priest erected a temple in his kingdom. Before installation it was informed that the Idol is not auspicious. To make the amend King bring the Idol of Shri Krishna from Karikulam Temple of Kurichi. During the journey King halted at Champakulam.
On the next morning it was found that thousand of boats gathered at the site to honor the sacred event and to escort the idol home. This scene is enacted at Champakulam every year and the event is known as Champakulam Boat Race.
Tourists from all over the country assembled to see the amazing Boat race. The Race is held over Pampa River. Thousands of visitors come to see the spectacular and one of the richest culture in the world.
