A town in the Agra District of Uttar Pradesh State, earlier capital region of the Mughal empire in 1571 under Emperor Akbar, Akbar's son Jahangir was born in the village of Sikri in 1569 and that year Akbar began construction of a religious compound to commemorate the Sheikh who had predicted the birth.
This place sits on a rocky ridge and red sandstone structures. Filled with many Mughal heritages. To commemorate the Gujrat campaign of Mughal Emperor Akbar one Victory Gate named Buland Darwaza was constructed which is 177 feet high.
A number of buildings and monuments were constructed here such as Jama Masjid, Tomb of Salim Chishti, Diwan-I-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, Anup Talao, Ibadat Khana (House of worship, where the foundation of a new faith Din-e-Ilahi was laid by Akbar), Mariam-Uz-Zamani's Palace (Akbar favorite and chief Rajput wife's residence, where a Hindu temple and a Tulsi Math is constructed), Naubat Khana, Pachisi Court, Panch Mahal, Birbal's House, Hiran Minar and more.
