The Ambalapuzha Sri Krishna temple, The ancient symbol of heritage, was built by a ruler of Chembakaseri Purandam Thirunal Devnarayan Thampurna around 790 AD.
Parthasarathy, the presiding deity of the temple, is depicted as a warrior with a whip in the right hand and a conch in the left hand. The conch is often considered to be a symbol of Lord Vishnu or his incarnations, The Ambalapuzha Sri Krishna temple is one of the rare temples in which the presiding deity possesses a conch as well as a whip.
This temple is also associated with the mythologically famous Guruvayurappan. It is believed that Guruvayurappan visits this temple daily even today for the enjoyment of a skillfully made milk-porridge served for Naivedyam.
Ambalapuzha festival is celebrated every year in memory of the establishment of the presiding deity in the temple. Arattu festival is another annual festival celebrated here.
