If you want to visit the biggest fair of Bikaner and experience the true flavor of the rich culture of Rajasthan then must visit the Kolayat fair. This fair is held every year in the month of October-November on Kartik Purnima Day on the bank of Lake Kolayat.
This fair is also called Kapil Muni Fair and had great religious importance on the life of local people.
It is believed that a holy dip in the lake during fair gives respite from all sins a man has committed in his/her lifetime. It is also believed that one day's stay at Kolayat is equivalent to 10 years stay at any other holy place.
During this festival, all the 52 Ghats are decorated and attractive lights are lit and gives the wonderful look of the area.
In the evening devotees float lighted clay lamps on the lake water and it gives a mesmerizing view. When sunsets, Sandhya Aarti, also known as Deep Malika is performed and hundreds of lighted lamps are floated on the river creates a heavenly atmosphere.
During Kolayat Fair a cattle fair is also organized where Buffalo, Camel, Horse, and other cattle are traded. Certificates and prizes are awarded to the best breeder, devotees offer prayers along with offerings like milk pudding, dry fruits, coconuts, sweetmeats, and sugar drops.
