Jorabangla Temple is an ancient temple located in Bishnupur, West Bengal. It is one of the top historical places in Bishnupur and one of the best places to experience Bishnupur tourism.
It is situated 2 km away from Bishnupur and is also known as Keshta Rai Temple. Jor Bangla Temple was built by Malla Raja Raghunath Singh Dev II in 1655 CE. It is one of the few temples in Bishnupur that is in good condition.
The temple richly ornamented with terracotta carvings. This temple is known for the classic Chal style of Bengal. The temple made of laterite bricks has an appearance of two thatched huts joined together and mounted on a single tower.
One of the two huts serves as the porch, while the inner hut serves as the temple. There is a hexagonal idol of Sri Chaitanya in the prayer hall which is no longer worshipped.
Jor Bangla Temple is famous for its grand terracotta structure and delicate carvings on the walls. The carvings on the walls depict episodes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and other prime sacred Hindu scriptures.
One can also see other paintings and sculptures, including royal hunting sites, musicians, and dancers.
The temple attracts a large number of devotees along with many students and archaeologists who are interested in ancient architecture.
Visitors get entry tickets for all Bishnupur temples, including this one from Rasamancha. Otherwise, visitors are not allowed to enter inside the temples.
