Malleswar temple was built by Malla king Bir Singha in 1622 AD. It is an Ek-Ratna temple built of laterite stone facing west and one of the earliest temples of Bishnupur and located near Jor Bangla temple.
It is square on plan with a Sikhara. Later the original shikhara was replaced by an octagonal tower. The entrance is a bit narrow, and the premise is a bit secluded and not too crowded. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
A beautiful idol of Nandi is found in front of the shrine. This temple is unique in its architecture compared to the other temples of Bishnupur and is a very popular Shiva temple in the Bankura district.
