Bongaigaon district is a district in the northwestern part of the state of Assam, whose headquarter is also Bongaigaon. It was the last capital of the Kamatapur kingdom. This district was created on 29 September 1989 by merging some parts of Goalpara and Kokrajhar districts, then in 2004, the size of this district was slightly smaller when a new district was carved out of this district, Chirang district.
