Over 300 different species of birds call the region their home, endowed with coffee plantations and numerous sacred groves. Apart from these, many migratory birds also come here every year. Four main areas have especially been identified for bird watching in Coorg, these include Brahmagiri, Pushpagiri, Nagarhole National Park, and Talakaveri Wildlife Sanctuary.

The common bird in the dense forests of Coorg is the Sri Lankan frogmouth. The white-bellied trippy is known for its funny way of making loud calls while jumping up and down a branch. These birds are usually seen on the southern edge of Coorg.
The orange-headed thrush is commonly seen around plantations. These birds are omnivores and are popular among coffee plants. The Oriental White Eye is another famous bird with bright yellow plumage and a distinctive white eye patch.
Laughing Thrush birds are found in small bamboo patches along rivers and feed on insects on the ground. The Malabar Trogon is one such bird that is so quiet that you might not even hear its wings flapping while in flight.
It is often seen in moist evergreen forests and has also been observed in the Nagarhole region. Must take a birdwatching tour through this region to spot some winged creatures you've never seen before.
