Somwarpet is a panchayat town in the Kodagu district of Karnataka state. This place is close to Pushpagiri Hills, Kotebetta, and Makkalagudi Betta. Pushpagiri is the second highest peak in Coorg and is located 6 km from Somwarpet.
The main crops grown in the area are coffee and spice such as cardamom, peppers, oranges, ginger, and vegetables. Apart from coffee and spice plantations, Somwarpet is home to beautiful valleys, peaks, and streams.
Trekkers can come here and trek to Pushpagiri hill, and for this, they have to climb from Bhabati. Tourist attractions in Somwarpet are - Kotebetta, the third highest peak in Coorg, situated between Madikeri and Somwarpet. The trekking has to be done for 10 km, and tourists reach the top of Kotebetta. Although no permission is required for trekking on this hill, it is better to take a guide along with you.
Beluru Golf Club, the lush green golf ground, attracts movie makers. There is also a Shiva temple on the top of this hill.
Makkalagudi Betta is the backwater of the Harangi reservoir. It is famous for its rich fields, forests, and beautiful scenery.
Another attractive place here is Male Malemalleswara Betta, situated 13 km from Somwarpet. This place is very famous among tourists. A large number of devotees gather here during Mahashivratri every year.
Mallallu falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in the Coorg, 25 km from Somwarpet in the Pushpagiri ranges. As it is nestled wonderfully amid lush greenery, it makes for a perfect weekend destination for tourists looking forward to savoring calmness.
