The Tomb of Safdarjung is situated at the junction of Safdarjung Road and Aurobindo Marg (Road) and in close proximity to Safdarjung Airport as well as Najaf Khan's Tomb. This area can be accessed by local buses, auto-rickshaws, and cabs.
The Safdarjung Tomb also referred to as 'Safdarjung Ka Maqbara' is a garden tomb in New Delhi, India, made of marble and sandstone and built-in late 18th century as the mausoleum of Safdarjung, a statesman who remained the Wazir ul-Hindustan (Prime Minister of India) during the reign of Ahmad Shah Bahadur.
This mausoleum built by Safdarjungs son Nawab Shujaud Daula remains the last monumental garden tomb depicting Mughal architectural style. Mughal Emperor Ahmad Shah in fact handed all the administration and control of the Empire to Safdarjung which made him the most powerful man in India.
Along with these extra responsibilities, Safdarjung never neglected his own province of 'Oudh' as it was his first family and property. This fame and power were unfortunately short-lived as court politics overtook him.
He was faced with confrontations from Emperor Ahmad Shah Bahadur after which he was eventually dismissed from all responsibilities.
