An idyllic place for meditation covered with abundant greenery. Aghanjhar Mahadev Temple is dedicated to Deity Shiva situated in the foothills in Dharamshala.

Gangs of Shiva devotees are reaching for their darshan in Khaniyara village, situated at the foothills of Dhaulidhar, about 20 km from Dharamshala. It is an ancient temple of Lord Mahadev in Khaniara village, built around 500 years ago. This temple is famous as Aghanjar Mahadev. It is said about this temple that its establishment is the Mahabharata period. According to legends, Arjun received the Pashupati weapon from Lord Shiva in the Barah festival of Mahabharata in Khaniara village. Many living examples of this can be seen even in the surroundings of this temple. The temple is nestled amidst bounteous forests and emerald mountain peaks. Other than the idyllic setting, a tiny cascading waterfall accentuates the beauty of the shrine.
