Gyuto Monastery is located 6 kilometers from Dharamshala, which is a popular tourist attraction. This shrine is home to Karmapa, the head of Karma Kagyu, a major school of Tibetan Buddhism. It is also known as TCV School and has a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha (also known as Gautama Buddha) placed in a small chamber. It was established in memory of the Tibetan soldiers who lost their lives for the independence of Tibet. There is also a Stupa-like structure, which is similar to those which were built by Emperor Ashoka during the 3rd century. Gyuto Monastery is well connected to the main city by taxis and buses.
