Trekking is a popular activity among visitors to Dharamshala. The trekking starting point is located in the Dhauladhar Range, which is at an elevation of 4600 meters above sea level in the Kangra Valley. There are many trekking routes through cedar, pine and oak forests, streams of clean water, lakes, and glaciers. The most familiar trekking route here starts from Dharamshala and leads to the Chamba Valley at Indrahar Pass, which is situated at an elevation of 4350 meters above sea level. This trekking route offers a panoramic view of the snowy peaks of the Pir Panjal range and the mountain ranges of the Himalayas. Another popular trekking route which starts at Dharamshala and passes through Billing, Bir, Palchak, Panihardu, Udeg, Marhu, Barbanghal, and Dharindand, and ends at Nayagaon. The toughest trekking route of this place leads to Bhimbhasutari Pass, which is situated at an altitude of 4580 meters above sea level. The trekking route which starts from Dharamshala and passes through the Baleni Pass, which is situated at an altitude of 3710 meters above sea level, is easier than the route through Bhimbhasutari Pass. This trekking route ends at Denali located on Chamba Road. The best season for trekking starts in September and lasts till November.
