INS Khukhari is the name of an Indian Navy Vessel. It was a Warship and full name is Indian Naval Ship Khukhri, the vessel was destroyed by the Pakistani submarine PNS Hengor on 9 December 1971, during the Indo-Pak war of 1971 with torpedoes. The ship sank 40 nautical miles from the coast of Diu, including 18 officers and 176 sailors. Mahendra Nath Mulla, the ship's commanding officer, had the opportunity to save himself in that situation, but the gallant soldier refused and supported his entire crew. He gave his life jacket to his junior officer and ordered him to get off the ship with his companions. Later, Captain Mulla was posthumously awarded by Mahavari Chakra for his unmatched valor and sacrifice in the honor of the country. It is also worth noting that after that incident, the Indian Navy took revenge on the port of Karachi within 48 hours. A memorial has been established in Diu to commemorate the martyrdom of all these brave warriors. A small model of INS Khukhari is kept in the glass near this monument, located on a hilltop facing the sea. The memorial was inaugurated on 15 December 1999 by Vice Admiral Madhavendra Singh, Who was a Commanding-in-Chief Flag Officer of the Indian Navy.
