Enchey Monastery is a very sacred and beautiful place of worship in Gangtok. Established in the capital of Sikkim in the year 1909, it built on the beautiful hill above Gangtok: from where it enjoys the magnificent view of Mount Kanchenjunga. According to a legend, this monastery, which belongs to the Varjyana Nyingma society of Buddhism, is present in such a place, on which the lama blesses Drupatheb Karpo.Drupatheb was an expert in the tantric art of Buddhism with flying powers, and he flew here from Menam Hill in South Sikkim and established a small monastery at this place. The name Ancheya Matha means solitary monastery, apart from this, there is another statement, that this place is sacred to the presence of the Gods who protect us - Kangchenjunga and Yabiyans. All these interesting proverbs provide beautiful places for worship, Gangtok's people, and make a special place in the hearts of other devotees, who believe that there are powerful gods within Gompa and they will fulfill all wishes. The Gompa is built figuratively and has many attractive images of gods inside. Loki Sharia, Mercury, and Guru Padmasambhava are the main deities worshiped here. Gompa also has a table of masks and a library used for annual religious dances. Unfortunately, the monastery suffered severe damage during the 2006 earthquake in Sikkim. The monastery celebrates some important festivals every year, Some of them are: Datar Cham / Cham Dance Mahostava, Singhe Cham and Pung Labhasol.
