Gulmarg is the third-highest ski resort in the world. It is known worldwide for its crisp snowfall. It is at an altitude of 3950 meters. The base of Aphrawat is where it all begins. Its majestic Aphrawat peak is the longest ski slope in Asia.
The mountain divided into two stages: Stage 1 can reach by Gondola. It connects Gulmarg with Kungadori from where you can ski back to the village. Stage 2 can also get to on a gondola, connecting Kungadori to the Aphrawat peak. There is also a chairlift from Kundori to Mary Shoulder from where one can ski till Gulmarg.
Below the village, which is usually under a pearl sheet of snow, a small part of the earth is visible from January to March. There are three ski lifts slopes, for beginners and intermediate skiers. These are large and easy slopes and are open for skiing day and night.
There are two button lifts along these slopes, but the long queues demand a lot of patience in extreme snowy weather. Easy ski run on Aphrawat approx 7 Km long, intermediate 16.5 km, and determined runs are 6 kilometers long.
Avalanche patrolling is on stages 1 and 2 as those mountains are highly avalanche prone. That's why expert skiers and snowboarders need to get an instructor from the area.
Day passes for various stages can be purchased at the ski station itself. The rate of a ski pass can range from Rs 740 to Rs 950 per day, depending on the first phase.
