The Basistha Temple is located on the south-eastern end of the city of Guwahati in the state of Assam and is in the Beltola region of Sandhyachal mountain. The Vashistha Temple is also known as the Basistha Ashram Temple. It's an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, built-in 1764 AD on the instruction of Ahom King Rajeshwar Singh in the Karyarupa style. It is believed that this ashram was founded by Maharishi Vasistha, who spent the last time of his life here. The history of this temple is believed to be an old Vedic period. Devotees come here from far-flung areas to visit here. Nirvana Day, the day when sage Vasistha attained salvation is celebrated in this temple with great reverence and devotion, a large number of devotees visit the temple on this day to see Maharishi Vasishta. During daily worship, flowers, confection, and incense sticks are offered to the Lord as well as new clothes to the Lord.
