Ambubachi Mela is celebrated during the monsoon in the Kamakhya Devi Temple in Guwahati. The Mela is also known as Ambubachi Festival.
It is believed that Goddess Kamakhya goes through her yearly menstrual cycle during this period. No Puja is held at this time and the temple remains closed for three days.
Tantric cult relates with this Mela. The festival marks the harmony between the reproductive female body and the cycles of nature.
Rural crafts fair is also held here during Mela. In 2021, it falls from 22nd to 24th June. The temple will reopen on 25th June 2021. The Mela will end on 26th June 2021 which started on 22nd June.
