Located near the Dighalipukhuri park is in Latasil of Guwahati. Guwahati War Memorial is dedicated to the martyrs who fought for the nation and died. The foundation of the memorial was laid on 18th May 2015, however, the site was open for public visits in December 2016. It was established as a mark of respect for the heroes who sacrificed their lives for our homeland. The memorial aims to spread the feeling of patriotism among the younger generations and for the mass acknowledgment of gallant sacrifices by our fearless soldiers. The memorial houses a replica of Amar Jawan and some wonderful imitations of the Saraighat battle. All in all, the site is a beautiful initiative by Rajya Sainik Board of the State government and an amazing way to add beauty to the historical spot. The entrance is decorated with a mighty army tank donated by the Indian Army and Indian Air Force which was used in the war. A few steps further below are the excellent portrayal of the Great Sariaghat Battle between the Mughals and the Ahoms. The story is weaved around the chief warrior Lachit Barphukan and the idea is to let the people of Assam know about the sacrifices and the wars fought to save Assam from the enemies. There are also a few sculptures on a boat showcasing war scenes in the water.
