Shrimanta Shankardeva Kalakshetra is a cultural institution that has an art gallery, a museum, an open-air theater, and a traditional Vaishnava temple. The institution was created by the state government in 1990 to highlight the cultural prosperity of the state. Kalakshetra, named after Shrimanta Shankardev, the religious leader who brought Vaishnavism to this part of the country, is located in Panjbari, Guwahati. In addition to the art gallery and other attractions in Shrimanta Shankardeva Kalakshetra, there is also a library which is also called Sahitya Bhavan Library with original manuscripts ancient Assamese literature has also been preserved. There is a special place in Kalakshetra called Lalit Kala Bhavan for the exhibition. Workshops, art and culture exhibitions are held regularly in the Lalit Kala Bhavan.
