Situated at the north-eastern end of the famous fort of Gwalior, constructed during the 15th century under the leadership of Tomar ruler Man Singh Tomar is Man Mandir Palace in Gwalior. It has a historical significance, many hearts touching stories have also been associated with this palace. It is a good example of medieval architecture mixed with Hindu architecture, has four floors out of which two floors are underground. Later it passed through the hands of several dynasties like Rajput, Delhi Sultanate, Mughal, Maratha, British, and Scindia. It is also known as Painted House and having colorful images of flowers, leaves, animals, and humans. The Palace accounts for the self-killing of several Rajput women to escape Iltutmish's Kurur army. For visiting the palace, you can book a local guide who will accompany you and for which you have to pay a minimum amount. It was the place where Aurangzeb murdered his brother Murad.
