Tansen's tomb is located in Gwalior where his mentor Mohammed Ghaus's Tomb is situated. Tansen was the lead singer of Emperor Akbar's court, He is one of the nine gems of Akbar's court.
It is believed that this famous musician of Gwalior was so expertise in music that when he sings Megh Raag it started raining and used to enchanted animals with his music.
Tansen was buried here with his mentor Sufi Saint Muhammad Ghaus. Tansen also followed the Sufi culture. The legend about Tansen is that it used to rain when he sang the Megh Malhar rag
His enemies force him to sing Deepak Raag, but he refused because singing Deepak Raag will make heat, enlighten the lights and finally the heat will burn him to ashes. His enemies wanted to see him dead, that is why they force him to sing Deepak Raag.
Tansen's memorial is a typical example of the Mughal style of architecture.
Tansen Music Festival is celebrated here in November-December every year to commemorate the birthday of a great musician. If you are a music lover then don't forget to attend the Tansen Sangeet Festival.
