Haridwar

Haridwar is a holy city in Uttarakhand and a major pilgrimage center for Hindus. Haridwar is also called the gateway of God. The city of Haridwar is also known as Mayapuri, Kapila, Mokshdwar and Gangadwar.

This place is known for its world-famous religious centers and tourist attractions. Most of the religious places are situated on the banks of the river Ganges. The most important and sacred place here is Har-ki-Pauri, which is also known as Brahma Kund.

It is the place where the river Ganges leaves the mountains and enters the plains. People come here for various practices such as Mundan and Asti immersion.

Kumbh Mela is held here after every 12 years, and devotees from all over the world come here to participate in this grand festival. While staying in Haridwar, tourists can participate in various festivals such as Ramnavami, Budhpurnima, Kavad Mela, and Diwali. The Kavand Mela organized every year, and during this time three crore people come to Haridwar.

Apart from religious places, this place is very popular from the industrial point of view. India Heavy Electricals Limited is situated here. It is the place where the first technical institute of India, Roorkee University or IIT Roorkee was situated.

The best time to visit Haridwar is between September to June because the weather here is pleasant.
