Chandi Devi Temple is a very famous temple in Haridwar. Temple is dedicated to the goddess Chandi Devi and situated on the summit of the Nile mountain. It is located on the other side of the river Ganges.
Chandi Devi Temple is one of the 52 Shaktipeeths. This temple was built in 1929 by Raja Suchet Singh of Kashmir. Adi Shankaracharya is said to have installed the original statue of Chandi Devi here in the eighth century. According to legend, Chandi Devi killed Chand and Mund, commanders of Shumbh-Nishumbh, here. Whereas according to another folklore, Neel Parvat is the place where Hindu goddess Chandika rested, for some time after killing Shumbha and Nishumbha demons.
This temple is one of the Panch Tirthas located within Haridwar. The Chandi Devi temple highly revered as the Siddha Peetha. It believed that this is a place where wishes are fulfilled. So devotees from every corner of the country come to the temple of the Goddess with their vows.
It is one of the three Peethas located in Haridwar, and the other two are the Mansa Devi Temple and the Maya Devi Temple.
Chandi Devi Temple can be reached easily by rope way. Earlier very few pilgrims comes to this place due to high hilly terrain.
