Daksha Mahadev Temple is an ancient temple of Haridwar, Uttarakhand, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It located in Kankhal town of Haridwar.
The temple was first constructed by Rani Dhankaur in 1810 and rebuilt in 1962. The temple named after King Daksha Prajapati, who was the father of the Goddess Sati.
According to legends, Daksha Yagya was performed at this place, organized by Daksha Prajapati, father of Devi Sati. She invited everyone to this Yagya except her son-in-law Lord Shiva, Sati felt very humiliated due to this behavior of her father and sacrificed her life in the holy fire of Yagya. The aroused Shiva, Gana's followers, killed King Daksha, later resurrected by Lord Shiva.
There is a small pit in this temple and believed that this is the place where Goddess Sati sacrificed her life. The Lingam of Lord Shiva, placed in the center of the temple.
Devotees come here in large numbers every year during the month of Sawan.
