Maya Devi Temple is a religious place for Hindus located in Haridwar. This temple is one of the 52 Shaktipeeths. This temple is dedicated to the Goddess Adhishthatri, and its history is available from the 11th century.
According to mythology, Goddess Sati sacrificed her life after her father insulted her husband, Lord Shiva. By the death of Goddess Sati, Lord Shiva decided to take the body of the Goddess to Mount Kailash, and while doing so, parts of the body of the Goddess fell in different places.
All those places where parts of Devi's body fall became a ShaktiPeetha. It is believed that the goddess's navel and heart fell on this temple. So, this place is also one of the 52 Shaktipeeths.
