Mecca Masjid

Mecca Masjid is not only the oldest mosque in Hyderabad, but it is also the largest mosque in the country. Apart from its special religious significance among Muslims, it also has historical significance and is also a heritage site protected by the state government. As Mecca Masjid is near historic buildings like Charminar and Chaumhala Mahal, it has gained much buzz as a tourist destination. Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah started the construction of this mosque in the 16th century. In the mosque, bricks made of clay brought from Mecca were used to make the central arch. The mosque is situated in the middle of the place around which Quli Qutb Shah built his empire. A room has been built in the courtyard of the mosque, about which it is said that the hair of the head of the prophet Mohammad has been kept safe.
