Edged in the Aravalli Hills, having a full areal view of Jaipur, along with Amer fort and Jaigarh fort, Nahargarh formed a strong defense ring for the city.
It was originally named Sudarshangarh, but it is now known as Nahargarh which means 'abode of tigers. Built in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, the King of Jaipur.
This fort never came under attack during the course of its history.
Major tourist attraction of Jaipur and a Masterpiece.
It was built for defense, the gun placed at the Fort was never used for war but it indicates time through firing.
The most amazing part of the Nahargarh fort is the Madhavendra Bhawan, which has twelve identical suites for 12 Queens of the King Sawai Madho Singh. Beautiful frescoes inside the buildings and it have connecting hallways to the different rooms. The rooms are built in such a way that when King was visiting one queen, the other queens could not find out about it.
Nahargarh fort is also a popular film shooting place, a number of films were shooted here, amongst them Rang De Basanti, Jodha Akbar is prominent ones.
Nahargarh fort is now a prime tourist spot in Jaipur, though it is closed at 5:30 PM if you wait outside then you will see a spectacular view of the complex during the night when the lights are on.
