Akhnoor Fort is a historical fort on the banks of river Chenab, located at Akhnoor 28 km from Jammu. The fort construction was started by Raja Tegh Singh in 1762 and completed by his son Raja Alam Singh in 1802.
It is situated on an ancient site which is known from the time of the Harappan Civilization.
Due to its historical and cultural importance, it is considered a National Monument and protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. This fort is a fine example of Indian military architecture. Inside the tower is the grand palace of Raja Alam Singh.
The high walls of the fort face the courtyard and the walls have murals. The entrance of Akhnoor Fort is from both the river bank and the northern bank. Akhnoor Fort is surrounded by the beautiful landscape of the Shivalik hill region and Trikuta hill region on its northern and eastern sides.
