Amar Mahal, Built in the 1890s by Raja Amar Singh of Dogra Dynasty was once the residence of Raja Amar Singh. Now the Mahal is converted into a museum with a rich collection of paintings, books, inscriptions, and sculptures. It was the home of the royal family for many years.
This erstwhile Palace stands tall as a testimony to the grand French architecture. It is constructed of red sandstone, and it gives a beautiful view of the Palace. The Durbar Hall of the museum is decorated with splendid Pahari paintings with family portraits of Dogra rulers.
The museum houses some of the rare works of famous painters like M.F. Hussain, J. Swaminathan, Ram Kumar, and Bikash Bhattacharjee.
It is also an abode to the golden sofa of the Dogra rulers, weighing 120 kg in pure gold.
There is also a library on the first and second floors of the museum, which stores a distinctive collection of antique books.
