Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary is situated close to Nandini village, 28 km away from Jammu. It is one of the famous Wildlife Sanctuaries in Jammu. The name of this sanctuary derived from the name of Nandini village.
This sanctuary spread over an area of 34 sq. km. It is a proud shelter for a large number of rare and endangered species of mammals and birds. Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary is primarily a bird sanctuary that is known among the people for its pheasant population.
Apart from partridges, you can spot red jungle fowl, blue rock pigeon, Indian mayna, chakor, and peacock here. People need to obtain wildlife tour permits from the regional wildlife warden in Ramnagar, Jammu, and Kashmir.
There are about eight mammal species in this wildlife sanctuary. The main species are Wild boar, goral, leopard, gray langur, rhesus monkey, etc.
The best time to view the birds is from March to May, and for animals is from September to March.
