Shivkhori is a cave of religious importance located in Sangar village of Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir state. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is included in the Shivalik mountain range and is a prime reverence center for Shiva devotees for the whole year.
Many ruins of very ancient temples are scattered throughout this area.
It is a natural cave that is about 200 meters long, one meter wide, and two to three meters high and has Swamambhu Shivlinga, which is endless according to the people. The entrance of this cave is broad, but it becomes small in the middle.
The Shivkhori cave is actually in the shape of a damaru of Lord Shiva, vast at the ends while the center is thin.
The passage from the outside to the inner chamber is shorter at one point and divided into two halves.
It believed that one of these caves leads to Kashmir, where the Amarnath cave located. It's closed now. To enter the sanctum sanctorum, one has to bend one's neck or body forward. 4 feet high, naturally situated in the center of the Shivlinga Mandal.
Goddess Parvati, along with Ganesh and Nandigan, is seated in the cave with many other natural objects. The ceiling is dotted with serpentine structures, dripping water droplets on the Shiva Lingam.
Pigeons are also seen here as in the Amarnath cave, which offers good wishes for the pilgrims. Even inside the cave, natural milky water can be seen dripping from the top of the Shivalinga, symbolizing the eternity of the river Ganges.
A big fair is organized at this place on the occasion of Mahashivaratri.
