Located in the Vilavancode Taluk of the Kanyakumari District, also called Mathoor Hanging Trough is the Mathoor Aqueduct. This grand 1 Km long trough was constructed in 1966 over the river Parazhiyar. It is one of the longest and tallest troughs in the continent. It was built to develop agriculture in the locality. It gets its name from the local village of Mathoor. The mighty structure's weight rests on 28 colossal pillars. It carries water for irrigation from the Pattanakal canal on one side of the hill to another. The design of the Mathoor Aqueduct divides it into 2 parts, one is the roadside and the other is the trough canal. The 7 feet high trough is 7.5 meters wide and is partly covered with concrete slabs on top. To enable the people to reach quickly to the trough a flight of stairs was built. The trough began to gain popularity since a lot of people started to visit it. For making the place tourist-friendly a children park has been developed. Several bathing platforms also made so that people of all age groups can enjoy it here. You come with family and friends to have a lovely time at the Mathoor Aqueduct.
