Located among the Western group of temples, the Matangeshvara temple is a Shiva temple in the Khajuraho town of Madhya Pradesh, India. Ancient Matangeshwar Temple built in the 9th century by the King Chandra Dev of the Chandela Dynasty. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and still an active temple. It is the only temple that is actively used for worship in Khajuraho. The Shivalinga situated in the temple is 9 feet inside the ground and equally outside. Not only this, but this Shivlinga present in the temple also grows an inch in length on Sharad Purnima every year. The authorities here measure it with an inch tape. According to the temple priest, on the day of Sharad Purnima of Kartik month every year, the length of Shivalinga increases to the size of a mole. The speciality of the temple is that the Shivalinga increases as it rises towards the top and also increases towards the bottom. People flock to the temple to see this amazing miracle of Shivlinga. Although this temple is full of devotees throughout the year, during the month of Savan, there is a flow of devotees here. It has beautiful carvings of Gods And Goddesses on its walls, most of the part of the temple is plain. These Chandela-era monuments are visited by tourists in large numbers.
