Vishwanath Temple was constructed in between 999 CE or 1002 CE. The temple is believed to have been commissioned by the Chandela Dynasty, depicting several Sculptures of various Deities, Sundari's, Couples making love and Mythical Creatures. The Vishwanath Temple is the Hindu temple Located among the Western Group of temples of Khajuraho, dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is also known as 'Vishwanatha', which means Lord of the Universe.
Vishwanath Temple is dedicated to the Hindu deity, Lord Shiva. The enchanting marble Shivalinga is worshipped as the main deity built by Dhanga Dev and belongs to the Western group of temples. The temple is built in panchayat shape with four temples at the four corners enclosing the main temple in the middle.
More than 600 sculptures made of rocks are places in this temple. There is also an impressive statue of Lord Brahma. As a protector, the statue of Brahma appears grand due to the lions and the elephant statues.
The beauty of the temple lies in the beautiful depiction of women on the stone wall. The magnificent carvings on the outer walls make its beautiful texture more attractive. There is also a huge 6-foot statue of Nandi bull sitting on a large platform.
