Adyapeath temple is a sacred Hindu temple situated in the Mondal Ghat road, Kolkata. It was built in 1967 but early founded in 1915 by the followers of Annada Charan Bhattacharya, who was a great devotee of Maa Kali and Sri Ramkrishna.
The goddess of this temple, Adya Devi, is a Divine form of Maa Kali, and this temple has a great religious significance. This temple is unique because of its architecture and symbolism.
The whole temple made up of immaculate white marble, and there are three temples nestled inside one another.
The spere of this temple combines Lord Shiva's Trident, the moon and star, the cross, and the hand fan, which are the holy symbols of Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, and Buddhism. The main reason for keeping these symbols together is not only Hinduism but also to dedicate all the religions together towards the same goal, which is the realization of God to humanity.
There are three altars, one atop the other just like stairsteps. The bottom altar has a murti or idol of Sri Ramkrishna, the central altar has a replica of the statue of Adya Maa found by Annada Thakur in the Eden Garden, and the topmost altar has the idol of Radha and Krishna.
A large number of devotees visit this temple every day for worship. Everyday religious songs and discourses held at nearby Natmandir (music hall), Pujas performed every day in the temple traditionally, and Bhog is also made daily in the Bhog Ghar, and Bhog distributed to all the visitors.
