Dakshineswar is a town under Barrackpore Paursabha in North 24 Parganas district in the state of West Bengal. The city comes under the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority.
The place is mainly known for the Dakshineswar Kali Temple. Dakshineswar Kali Temple is a Hindu temple located on the banks of the Hooghly River in the Dakshineswar region.
It is one of the most famous temples of Kolkata in many ways, which is a Kali temple of spiritual and historical importance built by Rani Rasmani, the landlord of the Renaissance era of Janbazar.
The temple was also the karmabhoomi of the philosopher and religious leader, Swami Ramakrishna Paramhansa, who was the spiritual teacher of Swami Vivekananda.
Apart from the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, the Adyapeeth Temple and Math are also located here. This area comes under Belgharia Thana of Barrackpore subdivision.
