Built-in in 1784, Jorasanko Thakur Bari is the ancestral home of the Tagore family located in North Kolkata. It is now serves as the Tagore Museum, commonly known as Jorasanko Thakur Bari in the local language.
700 paintings displayed in this ancestral home especially attract the attention of tourists. The museum also houses three separate galleries, manuscripts, books, and other antiquities.
Jorasanko Thakur Bari is the birthplace of the great poet and first non-European Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, where he spent most of his life, and he attained the heavenly world, so this place became a center of attraction for tourists as well as lovers of history and Bengali literature.
The Rabindra Bharti Vishwavidyalaya also located in proximity to the Jorasanko Thakur Bari. In addition to heritage routines, Rabindra Bharti Vishwavidyalaya organizes regular cultural programs on the poet's birthday, Payala Baisak (1st day of Baisakh month), when thousands of Rabindranath Tagore lovers come to attend the function. And on other occasions also large gathering is observed, such as his death anniversary on 22nd Shravan.
It also organizes the art festival, Aban Fair.
