Motherhouse is a religious congregation, and it is also called Missionaries of Charity. It established in the year 1950 by Mother Teresa. It is a Roman Catholic religious congregation known as Saint Teresa of Kolkata.
Motherhouse has about 4500 members of the flock who are commonly known as Sisters, and they have selflessly devoted their lives to serve the poor and the needy ones. They also provide free services to the ones stricken by poverty.
The members of the house have won many hearts by their services and kindness, and today several branches of the congregation are running all over the world serving the ones who are in need.
They provide services to every people in need regardless of their religion. They help the sick, the disabled, the poor, the ones who are dying, the mentally challenged, the addicts, former prostitutes, the homeless, the victims of natural disasters and epidemics, orphans, and street children.
An area of Motherhouse is reserved for followers to pay their respect to Mother Teresa. Here, you can also find the Tomb of Motherhouse and an exhibition that displays her work through photographs, articles, and awards.
Some of the belongings of Mother Teresa, like her sarees, her bag, and her sandals, are also displayed.
It is the place where Mother Teresa began her service to mankind, and this is not where it ended, but she created a community that continues to serve the needy selflessly.
A visit to this place is paying respect to Mother Teresa.
