Prinsep Ghat is a majestic structure situated on the banks of the Hooghly River. It is noted for its Gothic style of inlay. It was built in the memory of James Prinsep, a British Indologist who served as the Secretary of the Society.
The ghat is currently the main venue for many cultural festivals. With the magnificent Howrah bridge in the background, this ghat is an ideal place to have spectacular views at sunrise and sunset.
Amazingly, a blazing ball of the sun seen sinking below the horizon or peeping over it, filling the sky with myriad shades of red and orange.
Tourists can take a walk on the serene banks of the river and enjoy the quiet moments as it feels like a gust of cool breeze blows away from here, caressing your mind and hair.
The ghat has beautiful lawns and gardens with tall trees and flower beds, making it a perfect retreat for nature lovers. Small boats are also available for hire for taking small trips in the river.
Along with the traditional wooden boats, one can also enjoy walking in the river on speedboats. Lighting done in the evening makes the ghat a more picturesque place.
