Sur Jahan the World Peace Music Festival, formerly known as Sufi Sutra, is one of the largest music festivals held in Kolkata. The three-day euphonious music event allows local artists to engage in a creative exchange with artists from around the world in the beautiful setting of the iconic Victoria Memorial.
Organized by BanglaTalk.com, a United Nations-recognized city-based social enterprise that uses diverse global ensemble music has accompanied bands from over 20 countries.
It is held every year during the first week of February. The band's unparalleled performance in traditional costumes is often said to transport one back to the era, giving listeners the first-hand experience of the region's weaker traditions.
Beyond the music, the carnival also showcases various rural handicraft artists and organizes thematic exhibitions.
