Victoria Memorial famous tourist spot in India. It is situated in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal. The Victoria Memorial is a relic of British rule in India. It was built in memory of Queen Victoria to celebrate her 25 years of regulation over India.
The structure of the Victoria memorial is almost a replica of the Victoria Memorial in London. It built between 1906 and 1921, and William Emerson was its architect. The whole victoria memorial was made of white Makrana marble.
The structure of the Victoria Memorial shows an Indo- Saracenic revivalist style that uses a mixture of British and Mughal elements with Egyptian, Venetian, and Deccani architectural influences. There is a figure of the Angel of Victory at the top of the dome of the memorial.
A lush green garden surrounds the Victoria Memorial. which was designed by Lord Redesdale and David Prain. The lawn spreads over 64 acres, and there are numerous statues and sculptures in it.
Victoria Memorial also features a museum that has nearly 30,000 treasured artifacts. In this museum, you'll see exhibits that include rare and old photographs, western and Indian paintings, manuscripts in 25 galleries like the portrait gallery, Royal gallery, the sculpture gallery, the national leader's gallery, Queen's hall gallery, and Calcutta gallery. This museum also has a collection of primitive books, textiles, weapons, coins, and stamps.
A light and sound show also held in the vicinity of the Victoria Memorial Hall.
