Bhisma Kund is located at Narkatari in Thanesar, which is also known as Bhishmapitamaha Kund. According to Mahabharata, Bhishmapitamaha was revered for Pandavas and Kauravas, but he supported Kauravas in the war of Mahabharata. According to the scriptures, he got a boon that he can live as long as he wants and can die whenever he wants. He was an invincible warrior and had a special attachment with the Pandavas but had to fight against the Pandavas. The Pandavas had no way to deal with Bhishma Pitamah, so they sought advice from Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna knew the secret of Bhishma Pitamaha's death. Therefore, Bhagavan Sri Krishna advised the Pandavas to take Shikhandi in battle, who was neither a man nor a woman, he was a eunuch, and Bhism Pitamaha could never die by a man or woman as he was a great warrior and fight only the warriors, he could not attack Shikhandi. Thus, in a planned way, Arjun stands behind Shikhandi and starts firing arrows, Bhishma Pitamaha was wounded by this and left all weapons and fell on the tenth day of the war. Later, Bhishmapithamaha was laid on the bed of arrows and was surrounded by Kauravas and Pandavas. Lying on the bed of arrows, he felt thirsty and demanded to drink water, then Arjuna hit the arrow on the ground, and from there came a torrent of water, which quenched the thirst of Bhishma Pitamaha. Presently this place is known as Bhishmakund. There is a small temple nearby.
