Shanti Stupa

5 Km away from the main city, Shanti Stupa was constructed in 1991 by Japanese Buddhist, Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura. The construction was jointly done by the Japanese and Ladakhi Buddhists to mark the completion of 2500 years of Buddhism and to promote world peace. Shanti Stupa is a part of the peace pagoda mission, which aims to spread peace through the preaching of Buddha. The enchanting Shanti Stupa has various relics of old Buddhist culture including the huge idol of Buddha at the base. The idol was enshrined by the 14th Dalai Lama. The Shanti Stupa is a white-colored domed-shaped structure, located in Chandspa. It looks extremely beautiful during the night when it is illuminated. This pillar is known for its gilt panels depicting the life stories of Lord Buddha. It is surrounded by the traditionally built houses of the locals and snow-capped mountains. Take the steep routes to reach the Stupa that offers beautiful sunrise and sunset views.
