A hill fortress, located at the Pawana Maval region of Lonavala, situated at a height of 3500 feet from the sea level, a famous tourist attraction for trekking is Tikona Fort. The native name of this fort in Marathi is Vitandgad Fort but becomes more famous in the name of Tikona Fort due to its triangular shape. Besides, the mammoth entrance of the fort, large doorways, seven water tanks with clean water is special attractions for tourists. The way from the village of Tikona Peth to the hill-top can be a perfect journey for the people who love adventure. The trekking here is a very challenging but fascinating one. One can get the beautiful views of the Pawna Dam, Kathingad, forts at Visapur, Tung, and Lohagad from here. The fort surrounds a lake, Satvahan caves, and the temple of Trimbakeshwar Mahadev. Tikona Fort was built during the Silhara dynasty and afterward, this place was ruled by the Maratha Empire, the Nizams and the British. The Fort is currently maintained by a local organization called Shivdurg Sanvardhan. The mesmerizing view from the fort is a photographer's paradise.
