Tung Fort is about 12 km from Malavli railway station and can also be approached from Lonavala. Tung Fort with an elevation of 1075 m above sea level was fabricated by the Adil Shahi dynasty before 1600 CE but was captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj later. Tung fort is also named Kathingad fort. The word "Kathin" in Marathi means difficult. You can ferry across in a boat from Pawna dam to Tung Forts base village, Tungi as it is now surrounded by water from three sides. While climbing, you will experience the difficult challenge of reaching this fort because of its conical shape and steeps with a very narrow route on the edge of the mountain. It has an oval shape, thick walls, and various citadels. There is an elevated rise on grassy slopes that leads to the debris of a temple at the summit. A rocky staircase escorts several feet down to a water reservoir. Lohagad, Visapur, Tikona, and Korigad forts are visible from the top of the fort.
