Begum Hazrat Mahal Park is located in the city center near Hotel Clock Awadh, which was built in her name in memory of Begum of the last Nawab of Awadh, Nawab Wajid Ali Shah.
When the Nawab was sent to Calcutta, it was Begum Hazrat who took over the affairs of Lucknow. She fought valiantly against the British, and for this, she had to take refuge in Nepal, later she died in 1879.
After independence, the Government of India constructed a memorial in memory of Begum Hazrat, and it opened to the general public on 15 August 1962.
The monument has a marble table adorned with four circular brass plates and arm coats that belong to the royal family of Awadh. Today, this park has become a special place for the morning walk for the locals. The park is covered with lush green grass all around, and marble routes are made in between.
In the evening, this park gets a heart-pleasing view of fountains gives a panoramic view of the park.
Later this park was renamed Urmila Vatika.
