Dilkusha Kothi, situated on the banks of the Gomti River in the Dilkusha region of Lucknow, was built by a British Major Gore Asley in 1800, who used to be friends of the Nawab of Awadh. Currently, this Kothi or ancient monument has converted into ruins. The architectural design of this building gives a clear glimpse of the Seaton Delaval Hall pattern of Northumberland, England. It was built as a lodge for the Nawab, but later it was used as a summer house. Surprisingly, there is no courtyard in this Kothi and it is quite strange because the kings or nawab of the old age, used to open their houses. This Kothi used by the freedom fighters during the first battle of India's independence. However, it was captured by the British Army after the heavy bombing, and consequently, this Kothi continued to lose its grandeur and glory.
